Friends’ School Cross Country

Friends’ School Cross Country teams have had a very successful season at both District and Ulster level. Led from the front by Year 13 student James Edgar who was once again crowned Ulster Champion with many budding junior pupils aiming to achieve the same success.

Due to bad weather conditions the District Championships were forced to move venue from Ormeau Park to Jordnastown Campus however this did not deter the eager Friends’ pupils and many qualified for the Ulster Championship. A number of top three finishes were achieved on the day which included 3rd place for Aaron Peden in the Junior Boys, 3rd for Kate Gourley in the Intermediate Girls and a 1st place for both Zoe Carruthers and James Edgar in the Senior Event. In the team event the Intermediate Girls team finished 1st, Junior Boys 3rd, Minor Boys 6th, Minor Girls 4th and Mini Boys and Girls both 4th.

The Ulster Schools’ Championship took place at Mallusk playing fields with notable success from Friends’ athletes. Kate Gourley finished 8th in the Intermediate Girls. Zoe Carruthers finished 7th in the Senior Girls. James Edgar ran an excellent race to once again be crowned Ulster Champion for the third time in a row. This title has added to his current medal haul of Irish Schools’ Cross Country and 3000m Champion which is a fantastic achievement.
