Girls' Badminton Report 2018 - 2019
Seven teams were entered in league and cup competitions-year 8, minor (Years 9 & 10), junior (Years 11 & 12) and senior (Years 13 & 14). The minor and junior teams competed in division 1 of the league with the seniors playing in division 2.
The year 8 team- Olivia Rooney, Isabella Monaghan, Chrissy Hopkins and Darcy Rodgers, started the season in the round robin competition defeating Strathearn and Wallace but losing out on 1st place to Coleraine after a narrow loss.
In the cup, Friends’ faced Hunter House and had a convincing 6-0 win but unfortunately lost out in the semi-final to Wallace. The match against Wallace was an entertaining affair, the score ended 3-3 in matches and 7-7 in games and had to be worked out on points scored, unfortunately Friends’ lost by 7points.
The Minor league and cup squad are the most successful team in the school. The team consisting of Lucy Xu, Laura Bell, Alana Jiandani and Jasmine Buchannon finished the season unbeaten, winning a total of 8matches, 47 games and losing only 1 game, therefore, being crowned Ulster League and Cup Winner and All Ireland League winners.
In the cup Friends’ defeated Wallace and Royal & Prior to win the cup. In the league Friends’ defeated Wallace, Strathearn, Sullivan and Royal & Prior to win the Ulster League before defeating Mount Sackville and Blackwater College in the All Irelands.
The Junior league team consisting of Lucy Mathers, Sara Bamford, Lois Au and Georgia Reid had mixed fortunes. They lost to Sullivan and Wallace but then achieved a convincing 6-0 win over Hunter House to get into the B league semi-final. In the semi-final they faced Coleraine and drew 3-3 in matches but winning on games 7-6. In the final after a tightly fought contest Wallace were victorious winning four matches to two.
In the Junior cup the team of Bethany Au, Ella Agnew, Lucy Mathers and Sarah Bamford fought hard and played some good badminton before losing 4-2 to a strong Coleraine Grammar team.
Lucy Xu and Laura Bell continue to perform at a high level and were chosen to represent Ulster under 15 at the Interpros, in which the team finished runners up.
The Senior league team of Bethany Au, Ellie Bamford, Eloise Bryans and Ella Agnew had a mixed year, defeating Strathearn 6-0, losing to Wallace 5-1 and drawing with Royal & Prior 3-3, these results qualified the girls for the semi-final. In the semi-final Friends defeated Sullivan 6-0 and progressed to the final where they were narrowly defeated 4-2 by a strong Coleraine team.
The Senior Cup team of Olivia Agnew, Eloise Bryans, Cara Jeffrey and Emma Greer lost out to Coleraine 6-0.
In the Champion of Champions tournament held at Lisburn Racquets Club in November,
Junior girls Lucy Xu lost narrowly in the semi-final, Laura Bell and Alana Jiandani won the Junior doubles.
Senior girls doubles pairing of Ellie Bamford and Eloise Bryans lost out in the group stage.

Half School were awarded to Ellie Bamford and Eloise Bryans
The Senior Boys' team (Conor Monteith, Matthew Prentice, Reid Lonsdale, Cameron Watson and Matthew Hamill) won The Ulster Schools League and Cup Double in March 2018.
