Challenges

The Mathematics Department enters pupils for the UK Mathematical Challenges every year. This is organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust from the School of Mathematics, University of Leeds.

Two hundred and seventy Year 8 and Year 9 pupils were entered for the Junior Mathematics Challenge in May 2014. Sixteen students were awarded a Gold Certificate, 41 a Silver Certificate and 67 a Bronze certificate. Leo Hunter (Year 9) was awarded a ‘Best In School’ certificate and was invited to take part in the Junior Olympaid.

One hundred and twenty pupils from Years 10, 11 and 12 were entered for the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge in February 2014. Seven students were awarded Gold Certificates, 30 Silver and 34 Bronze Certificate. Four students qualified for the European Kangaroo. John Dawson (year 12) was awarded the ‘Best in School’ Certificate and was invited to sit the two hour challenging Olympaid paper in March 2014

Thirty pupils from Year13 and 14 were entered for the Senior Mathematics Challenge in November 2014. Two students Jason Steenson and John Dawson were awarded Gold Certificate, 6 a Silver and 12 a Bronze Certificate. Jason Steenson and John Dawson also received Best in school certificates and took part in the British Mathematical Olympaid Round 1.
