Our dedicated Chemistry Department has four full-time, subject-specialist teachers. They are passionate about creating a strong learning environment that aligns with the curriculum and school vision.
This engaging Chemistry course for Years 9 & 10 gets pupils ready for their GCSE exams. Through hands-on experiments, they’ll build strong mathematic, practical, and literacy skills needed for scientific exploration.
The course also emphasizes safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
At Key Stage 4 students will develop a knowledge and understanding of the material world and the effects of Chemistry on society.
Students will learn about organic chemistry, quantitative chemistry and electrochemistry. Students follow the CCEA GCSE specification. They can either take Chemistry as an individual subject or as part of a Double Award Science course for GCSE.
At Sixth Form students gain a deep grasp of core Chemistry concepts and how they connect. They’ll delve into real-world applications, exploring how Chemistry shapes societal decisions, fuels the economy, and benefits society as a whole.
Through hands-on experiences, mathematical exploration, and problem-solving challenges, students hone their practical skills. Pupils follow the CCEA AS & A2 Chemistry Specification; the majority of pupils carry on to A2 after completing AS.
Studying Chemistry opens doors to a wide range of fulfilling careers, such as those in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary science, food science, and the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
This awareness is instilled in students at all levels. Pupils are also encouraged to enter UK-wide competitions such as the RSC Chemistry Olympiad and Cambridge Chemistry Challenge to compete for Bronze, Silver or Gold awards. In addition to this, pupils have the opportunity to attend external workshops and excursions.Â
